The Hoosiers’ bench is just as long as its starting five
Outside of 6’4 Trey Galloway, the entire Indiana bench rotation should be 6’5 or taller. With all that is returning to the starting lineup there likely won’t be many shots to go around for the reserves, but Galloway is a guy who can take advantage of limited opportunities, shooting 46% from the field. With Parker Stewart gone, the program and one guy who could be primed to take advantage of that is sophomore Tamar Bates who only saw 14 minutes per game as a freshman.
The depth in the frontcourt for Indiana will certainly be a strength for Mike Woodson. Hood-Schifino’s Montverde Academy teammate Malik Reneau should see significant minutes off the bench. The 6’8 Reneau is lanky at just 210lbs. but he has as much talent as anyone on the roster and should benefit greatly from going against Jackson-Davis in practice every day.
Kaleb Banks is the third top-100 recruit joining the Hoosiers this year but playing time may be hard to come by due to the depth in the frontcourt. One reason for that is junior Jordan Geronimo who could be a secret weapon for the Hoosiers after averaging 4.4 points and 3.6 rebounds in 12.6 minutes per game. With an increased role the 6’6 forward could be a key piece of the bench, especially for a team that struggles to shoot it, he is a 51.6% shooter over his previous two seasons.
