In 2022, college basketball is dramatically different than it was in 2012. College sports as a whole have undergone seismic changes and one of those is the freedom of player movement. With over 1,000 players transferring this off-season, it can be difficult to keep up with which players are where and who on your favorite team will become a household name without ever hearing of them before the season.
Here, I’ll spare us the entire college basketball landscape and merely focus on the 20 best transfers entering the biggest money tree in America’s southeast region: SEC Basketball.
Of course, we have the usual suspects on this list. Arkansas reloaded its roster with some proven D1 talent, Alabama reached back into the transfer portal again to find significant contributors, and Kentucky added a proven, veteran presence to go along with yet another talented recruiting class.
There’s also some intrigue with schools like Mississippi State, Missouri, South Carolina, and LSU who relied heavily on the transfer portal to replenish their rosters after the firings of the previous coaches. But who was the SEC‘s best addition? I think it’s time to break it down here, starting with some honorable mentions of players that will make impacts on rosters but didn’t necessarily crack the top 20.
Honorable Mentions: Alex Fudge (LSU to Florida), Jalen Graham (Arizona State to Arkansas), Meechie Johnson (Ohio State to South Carolina), Ebrima Dibba (Coastal Carolina to South Carolina), Ezra Manjon (UC Davis to Vanderbilt), Jamel Horton (Albany to Mississippi State), Trae Hannibal (Murray State to LSU), DaShawn Davis (Oregon State to Mississippi State), Jayveous McKinnis (Jackson State to Ole Miss), Matthew Alexander-Moncrieffe (Oklahoma State to Georgia), Dexter Dennis (Wichita State to Texas A&M).
