By Matt Melton
The defending national champions, all eyes are on Kansas Basketball as we inch closer to the 2022-23 college basketball season. Coming off their fourth national championship in program history, could the Jayhawks potentially be the first team to go back-to-back since Florida in 2006-07 this season?
Taking a look back at the year that was, the Jayhawks finished the 2021-22 season with a 34-6 overall record, which was the highest single-season win total for Kansas Basketball since the 2010-11 campaign (35-3).
As mentioned previously, last year would also culminate in a 72-69 national championship victory for the Jayhawks over North Carolina, which put the finishing touches on a memorable run through March that also included wins over Texas Southern, Creighton, Providence, Miami, and Villanova.
The Jayhawks also finished the season with a 14-4 record in Big 12 play, which translated to a regular season conference championship, as well as a Big 12 Tournament title. Averaging 78.2 PPG, Kansas ranked No. 25 nationally in scoring offense, with their 67.2 PPG total allowed to opponents ranking just outside of the Top 100.
Looking ahead to this season as well, Kansas is once again expected to be a favorite in the Big 12, as well as one of the nation’s top programs under head coach Bill Self.
