Miami Basketball: 2022-23 season preview and outlook for Hurricanes
By Joey Loose
Schedule Outlook
The beginning of the season should be somewhat drama-free, as the Hurricanes get three straight home games over mid-majors, with the most intriguing being a date with UNC Greensboro. They’ll then head to Connecticut for the Naismith Memorial Basketball HOF Tip-Off Tournament, facing Providence in the first round. The Hurricanes then face either Maryland or Saint Louis in the second game, hoping to be playing for a title.
After another easy home game, the Hurricanes have a few intriguing games on the non-conference slate. They’ll head to Orlando on November 27th to play an upstart UCF squad. Three days later, they’ll be back at home against Rutgers as part of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. A few days after that they’ll head back on the road, taking on Louisville in an intriguing matchup that opens the early portion of ACC play.
All things considered, there aren’t a ton of challenges on this nonconference schedule, with just three more games in the nonconference slate. They’ll be heavy favorites in most of these games against mid-major foes, but have an intriguing matchup against Vermont to finish things off. After that, their full focus goes towards the ACC schedule.
The ACC plays an unbalanced 20-game schedule and the Hurricanes will have already played three of those games before that Vermont matchup. They draw the Blue Devils twice, including at home on February 6th, but have to travel to Chapel Hill for their one matchup against North Carolina, who looks like a championship favorite. The season ends with home games against Florida State and Pittsburgh, giving them a chance to end the season on a positive note after some tough road contests.
