Kevin Keatts has successfully landed quality recruits so far at NC State Basketball. He gets one more in four-star small forward Dennis Parker.

Considering how rough last season was for NC State Basketball, there’s a reasonable chance that head coach Kevin Keatts is coaching for his job. He did a solid job this offseason in landing talent, bringing in four transfers from the portal. If the pieces to build around star guard Terquavion Smith are successful, then Coach Keatts should be able to avoid the hot seat.

That also means that he needs to get the new batch of Wolfpack players. They’ve been after multiple targets in the 2023 recruiting class but haven’t landed anyone yet, until Dennis Parker this week. He’s a consensus four-star prospect, with 247sports having him in the top 100. At 6’6 and around 180 pounds, Parker is a true wing with versatility and athleticism that makes him a true two-way prospect.

The Richmond, Virginia native picked NC State over both Georgetown and Oklahoma State. After missing out on other targets, Parker was a needed commitment to the ACC program. He also fills a need on the roster that doesn’t have too many true “wings”, especially those that are proven at the ACC level. Jack Clark is a 6’8 transfer from La Salle, while former Providence small forward Greg Gantt is back after missing all of last season with an injury.

Parker has a really good chance at getting immediate minutes as a freshman and his defensive potential is what can really make him a part of the rotation, considering how awful NC State was on that end of the court this past season.

Coach Keatts is an effective recruiter but the pieces haven’t always worked out. The addition of Dennis Parker should work with whoever is on the future roster and make the team more competitive on the defensive end. The latest commit likely isn’t a “one and done” prospect but should be a future impactful piece for the program.
