The 2022-23 season will be officially underway Monday night when the Rhode Island Rams host the Quinnipiac Bobcats.

Game time: Monday, November 7, 7:00 p.m. ET

TV schedule: ESPN Plus

Location: Thomas M. Ryan Center, Kingston, R.I.

The opening game marks the fourth meeting between both programs, with Rhody holding a 2-1 edge. The last time these teams faced off was December 11, 2010, which resulted in a 73-66 victory for Quinnipiac.

When the ball is tipped, URI fans will get their first look at head coach Archie Miller in his return to coaching. He spent a year away from college basketball last season but recently coached in the Big Ten Conference with the Indiana Hoosiers and previously with the Dayton Flyers.

The new era in Kingston means that there will be several new faces taking the Ryan Center floor for the Rhode Island Rams this season. A player to watch for the Rams is sophomore guard Brayon Freeman. The George Washington transfer earned a spot on the Atlantic 10 Preseason Third Team.

Although Rhode Island will work through some chemistry issues early on with a younger roster, they managed to retain veteran leadership in guard Malik Martin. He is the lone senior for the Rams this season and a solid contributor on both ends of the floor.

Quinnipiac enters this season with a more experienced roster than Rhode Island. Head coach Baker Dunleavy retained five of his seven top scorers from last season.

Quinnipiac will be led by redshirt senior Matt Balanc, who averaged 14.6 points, 4.2 rebounds, and shot 42.9 percent. He was named to the Preseason All-MAAC First Team.

We can also expect Dezi Jones to make an immediate impact with the Bobcats. The junior guard earned Preseason All-MAAC Third Team honors. Last season, he averaged 11.4 points, 3.1 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and shot 47.4 percent.

Rhode Island will have to fight through adversity to win this game; however, having the home-court advantage on night one should help their case. The Rams are still looking for all contributors to earn their roles and learn the system that Coach Miller and his staff put into place. If Quinnipiac carries its success from last season into this game, we can expect them to come out victorious.
