San Diego State Aztecs – Losses to Arizona and Arkansas

The Aztecs do have a win over Ohio State at the start of the Maui Invitational but that was all they could muster, as they lost the next two games. By no means, are the defeats to the Wildcats and Razorbacks bad but it was a missed opportunity for them not to have a win over a top-15 SEC team to bolster their resume.

It’s also an issue that the previous wins (Stanford and BYU) haven’t looked good so far and Saint Mary’s is the lone game in the non-conference left that can move the needle for them. San Diego State certainly is still an NCAA Tournament team but this past week may go a way toward determining its seeding in March.

Syracuse Orange – Losses to St. John’s and Bryant

Syracuse was in the Empire Classic and split overtime games against Richmond and St. John’s. It didn’t hurt or help their resume but the Orange did show signs of improvement overall. Those “improvements” went away on Saturday, as they lost at home to Bryant in the final seconds.

That’s another loss at home to a high-scoring program in the Northeast and the Orange now has both the Bulldogs and Colgate as blemishes on their own resume. A road game at Illinois this week in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge would go a long way toward making up for the two losses.
