Last season, Creighton dominated BYU on its home floor. Will there be a different result for the Bluejays now that it’s out west?

TV schedule: Saturday, December 10th, 10:00 pm ET. FS1

Arena: Michelob ULTRA Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada

It’s been a rough season to this point for BYU, who is now 5-5 after a pair of awful losses to South Dakota and Utah Valley. The defeat this week to the Wolverines was an eye-opener, as they were simply run off the floor in the second half to lose, 75-60. Fousseyni Traore had 18 points and seven rebounds, while Rudi Williams, who was coming off the bench this time, had 15 points.

But the collective shooting woes remain for the Cougars, going 4/26 from three-point range. They clearly miss Spencer Johnson, who has been out for the past couple of weeks and likely remains out until WCC play. This is a team that had NCAA Tourament aspirations but at this point, is an underdog to even make the NIT. They do have a major opportunity in front of them in a neutral site game, against a top-25 team in Creighton (6-3).

The Bluejays have taken a dip as of late after an unexpected loss to Nebraska. Losing to Arizona and Texas beforehand isn’t shameful but the Cornhuskers’ setback made it three defeat losses. They’re still a talented bunch, with all five starters currently averaging in double figures. Center Ryan Kalkbrenner leads the way with 15.9 ppg and 7.6 rpg, while Baylor Scheierman is nearly putting up a double-double at 12.9 ppg and 9.7 rpg.

Their biggest issue at times has been shooting, including going 10/40 from deep in the loss to Nebraska. They have the guard play and certainly the frontcourt to make a run in March but will need to be more consistent.

Next. Ranking the final 10 unbeaten teams. dark

Both teams are coming into this game without much momentum, with the loser really feeling down. BYU desperately needs this game to have any at-large hopes, while Creighton needs it to stay ranked next Monday. The Cougars have shown that they have fight in them but the Bluejays are the more talented team and it should show in the final score.

Prediction: Creighton 80, BYU 63
