The NCAA basketball season is still relatively young, but now more than a month of games have been played and we’re starting to get a firmer picture on things. Some teams are exceeding expectations while others are failing to meet their goals. Some players are having breakout campaigns while others may be dealing with injuries or inconsistent play. It’s a season with plenty of big-time returning faces and a few new names and teams that are making their presence known.
We’re in what is probably the calmest part of the basketball season here around the holidays. The early holiday tournaments and conference challenges are in the rearview with many teams already looking ahead to conference play. Still, the coming days and weeks will still have some exciting and explosive matchups, but one thing is certain: many teams are running out of time to build their nonconference resumes.
With what we’ve already seen and known, we’re taking our weekly look at some of the best teams in the nation. Today we’ll be updating and releasing our new top 25 rankings, recapping each team’s action over the last seven days, and figuring out where they stand relative to the other great teams in this sport. This was a wild week for a few teams, with some unexpected wins and unfortunate losses across the board. The schedule might not be as wild, but there’s never a quiet moment in college basketball.
