Wisconsin vs Lehigh: 2022-23 college basketball game preview, TV schedule
Can a starless Wisconsin takes care of business against a weaker team like Lehigh? Will Eric Taylor and Tyler Whitney Sidney be able to pull off the upset against a solid defense team like Wisconsin?
TV schedule: December 15th, 2022 on the Big Ten Network at 7:00 P.M
Location: Kohl Center
The Wisconsin Badgers go into this game with a record of 8-2. Their two losses have come against Kansas and Wake forest. Wisconsin has been on my radar ever since a 2-2 Atlantis tournament performance. While going 500 isn’t anything to write home about, they almost beat one of the best teams in the country in Kansas in an overtime loss.
A couple of games later and a win over 13rd ranked Maryland, the Badgers are looking sneakily very good. They go into this game ranked as the twenty-second-ranked team in the country and have a three-game winning streak. They are led by Tyler Wahl. Wahl is averaging 14 points per game on 41 percent shooting.
Other notable scorers include Chucky Hepburn and Connor Essegian. Hepburn is averaging 12 points per game on 37 percent shooting and Essegian is averaging 10 points per game on 44 percent shooting.
The Badgers are finishing off the calendar year with a couple of non-conference matchups before they face off against a tough in-conference schedule. Wisconsin plays Grambling and Western Michigan before they face off against a tough trio of Illinois, Michigan State, and Indiana in the new year.
While they might not have a dominant scorer, the defense is very underrated. They only allow 61 points per game, which is the 31st-best in the country. The team doesn’t cause a lot of turnovers but it does get a lot of stops.
The Lehigh Mountain Hawks go into this game with a record of 4-4. Their four losses have come against UMBC, Syracuse, Virginia Tech, and MD-Eastern. Their best win came against Marist. They are led by Evan Taylor and Tyler Whitney-Sidney. Taylor is averaging 13.5 points per game on 43 percent shooting. Whitney is averaging 13.1 points per game on 46 percent shooting.
I think that the Wisconsin Badgers will be able to take care of business against Lehigh. I think Wahl will have a good performance in one of three matchups before a real tough stretch for the Badgers take place in the New Year. I don’t really give the Hawks a good chance to pull off the upset, as they will not have the advantage in a particular part of this game.
Prediction: Wisconsin 85, Lehigh 60
