In today’s edition of NCAA Basketball news, Marcus Carr ties a career-high, while Seton Hall remains winless in Big East play.

Tuesday was the return of NCAA Basketball play after a short holiday break, outside of the Diamond Head Classic. There were only five games featuring D-I opponents but one was a conference battle between Big East opponents. Check out the three key headlines from last night’s action.

Marquette hands Seton Hall another conference loss

The Golden Eagles made several runs in the win over Seton Hall but the one early in the second half pushed it out to an insurmountable advantage. Marquette won by a final score of 83-69, led by 16 points and 10 rebounds from forward Ighodaro. Tyler Kolek dished out another eight assists, while the team shot 54% from the field overall.

Seton Hall is now 0-3 in Big East play, despite 15 points from Dre Davis. Kadary Richmond had nine points and five assists but shot 4/12 from the field. The Pirates’ inconsistent offense had been a problem and unless it gets figured out, they risk being in the bottom tier of the conference going forward.

Marcus Carr goes for 41 points in blowout win

It was a blowout win for Texas from the get-go, beating Texas A&M-Commerce, 97-72. Marcus Carr tied a career-high with 41 points, scoring 33 in the field half alone, including eight made three-pointers. Dillon Mitchell had 16 points on 8/9 shooting as well for the Longhorns.

The 5th-year senior guard leads Texas with 17.8 ppg and 4.3 apg while shooting 45% from deep. He’s putting up similar numbers as when he was at Minnesota and is playing at a Big 12 Player of the Year level. With conference play coming up, Carr is making a case for one of the top players not only in the Big 12, but in NCAA Basketball overall.

Texas A&M overcomes halftime deficit to beat Northwestern State

The Aggies have struggled so far in non-conference play, including a recent home defeat to Wofford. They almost had an even worse loss last night, trailing by five points to Northwestern State midway. Texas A&M was able to hold the Demons to 19 points in the second half, winning the game with a score of 64-52.

Henry Coleman led all scorers with 24 points and seven rebounds, while Tyrece Radford had 21 points and 10 rebounds on 8/10 shooting from the field. It was far from a pretty offensive performance, with the team shooting 1/12 from deep. In the end, Texas A&M heads to SEC play with a victory.
