It’s a big day for UNC Basketball, beating out multiple ACC programs in landing Elliot Cadeau, a five-star class of 2024 ball-handler.

Recruiting has died down for the past couple of months since most of the marquee class of 2023 recruits have committed somewhere. So now, attention has moved towards the 2024 class, with a few five-stars reportedly getting close to decisions. One of them this past week was Elliot Cadeau, a consensus five-star prospect that is ranked in the top 15 overall, according to 247sportsComposite.

Originally from New Jersey, Cadeau now plays for Link Academy in Missouri and has become a nationally known prospect. In the past, the point guard had a list of six programs that were in contention for his services, including Louisville, North Carolina, Syracuse, Kansas, Texas, and Texas Tech. At various points, a few of these teams seemingly had a shot to land him. But this past week, one program clearly got the edge and eventually, landed the commitment.

This is the third commitment for UNC Basketball in the 2024 recruiting class, joining top-30 combo guard Simeon Wilcher, as well as four-star forward, Zayden High. This was an important pickup for the program in the backcourt, as there’s a strong chance that one if not both Caleb Love and RJ Davis will be gone after this season.

Both of them play over 35 mpg so we don’t know what the Tar Heels will do without them in the future. Freshman guard Seth Trimble will be a factor but barring offseason transfers, the duo of Wilcher and now Cadeau could get big minutes early on as freshmen.

There’s a really good case to be made that Cadeau is the best true point guard in the entire class. The 6’1 guard is a capable scorer but consistently gets his teammates involved and can rack up the assists. It makes him a good fit with Wilcher, who is arguably better off the ball. This is a good pickup for the Tar Heels and puts them in a good spot going forward when it comes to roster building.
