The transfer portal has become a huge part of NCAA Basketball these days, with over 1,000 D-I players switching teams. That was the case this offseason, with a number of talented players moving around. Right before the start of the season, I did take a look at the top projected newcomers for the season and plenty have held up, but there also are a number of players that have broken out at their new respective spots.

With conference play getting going this week, there’s enough of a sample size to see who has been the most impactful transfers from this offseason. Here’s a ranking of the top 25, using both statistics and how much they’ve changed their respective teams as the ultimate factors.

*All stats are through December 28th

25. Sam Griesel – Nebraska Cornhuskers

2022-23 stats: 10.6 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 4.3 apg

The 6’6 guard’s do-it-all offensive game worked well in the Summit League but it was far from a guarantee that it would work in the Big Ten. But Griesel has made a case for being Team MVP of Nebraska, leading them in passing as the defacto point guard. He also has five games of double-digit scoring, including 13 points and nine rebounds in a win over Florida State and 18 points, 12 rebounds, and seven assists in the massive upset over Creighton.

As a team, Nebraska has improved and should be competitive in Big Ten play. And Griesel has been a key part of it. Now that he’s healthy as well, look for the Cornhuskers to be a thorn in the side going forward.
