We have made it to 2023. A very Happy New Year’s to all in the world of NCAA basketball. The calendar may be flipping over to the next year, but this basketball season chugs along, entering the teeth of conference play in the coming weeks and months. There has already been a lot of excitement through the bulk of nonconference play before the holidays, with tournaments and intriguing matchups still in recent weeks.

The first few months of this season have certainly been filled with intrigue and countless memorable moments. There has been the emergence of players, those having breakout years and others emerging as transfers and new faces. There have been teams that are greatly exceeding expectations while others have clearly fallen short of the mark. Add in some high-profile matchups, buzzer-beaters, and wild finishes and we’ve gotten this season off to a very good start.

With what we’ve seen and know, we’re proceeding with this week’s edition of the rankings, putting our best efforts into determining the top 25 teams in the nation. We’re far past the point where preseason rankings or expectations mean anything; we’ve seen at least a dozen games from each of these teams. Instead, we’re focusing on what we’ve seen in recent weeks as conference play begins in earnest. These rankings are not absolute by any means and a lot will change in the coming months, but let’s take a look at where these teams stand right now.
