9. Oklahoma Sooners – 9-5 (0-2)

With so many good teams in Big 12 Basketball, the margins for wins and losses can be as small as possible. That’s the case with the Sooners, who had a pair of top-25 teams on the ropes in the final minute.

In the 70-69 loss to Texas, Oklahoma had a chance to win in the last seconds but it didn’t go it’s way. Grant Sherfield, who has been the star of the team this season, had 22 points on 9/19 shooting from the field. Jacob Groves had 17, while Jalen Hill had 14 points and six rebounds.

At home against Iowa State, the Sooners also lost, 63-60. It was the rare off-game for Sherfield who had just four points on 1/7 shooting, while also not registering a single assist or rebound. Hill and Tanner Groves each had good games, combining for 31 points,14 rebounds, and six steals. The good news is that they don’t need Sherfield to go for 20+ to win in league play but this was a missed opportunity for the team at home.

The Sooners will now have to go on the road in the next week, taking on both Texas Tech and Kansas. This is a solid team but they’re now staring at an 0-4 start to Big 12 play.
