Mid-Major nominees for Player of the Week
There were a ton of great individual performances last week and it made finding the final five players for the Busting Brackets Player of the Week a little challenging. The players this week all had huge games and they were consistent stat sheet stuffers. If you want to be on this list the best thing to do is to stuff the stat sheet.
Here are the players who did not make the final five this week. Clark Slajchert from Pennsylvania, Kam Woods from North Carolina A&T, Darius Quisenberry from Fordham, Johnell Davis from Florida Atlantic, Tyreek Scott-Grayson from Old Dominion, Jose Placer from North Florida, Jalen Rucker from Army, Dayvion McKnight from Western Kentucky, Bent Leuchten from UC Irvine, Callum McRae from Sacramento State, Markeese Hastings from Western Michigan, Aaron Gray from Niagara, Khalil Brantley from La Salle, Sincere Carry from Kent State, Demarcus Demonia from Texas A&M Commerce, and Jordan Dingle from Penn. The Final five and their stats for the week are below.
Enrique Freeman – Akron Zips
The Big man and reigning MAC defensive player of the year had a huge week in two games.
Win over Northern Illinois- 27 points, 15 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 steals
Loss to Ball State- 23 points, 14 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 blocks and 2 steals.
Isaac Jones – Idaho Vandals
Very few players can take over a game on both ends of the floor like Jones can. He is a nightmare in the Big Sky
Loss to Sacramento State- 42 points, 12 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 blocks, and 3 steals
Loss to Portland State- 17 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists and 1 block
Brandon Noel – Wright State Raiders
The freshman looks like he is going to be the next star big man for Wright State. He is dominating the Horizon League.
Win over Detroit Mercy- 18 points, 17 rebounds, 3 assists
Loss to Oakland- 14 points, 15 rebounds, 2 assists
Jake Stephens – Chattanooga Mocs
He is one of the best big men in the entire country, he shoots threes and has great post moves. He dominates most nights he is on the floor. His lines this week will prove that.
Loss to UNC Greensboro- 17 points, 13 rebounds, 7 assists, and 1 block
Win over VMI- 37 points, 15 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 block and 1 steal
Denver Jones – Florida International Panthers
Not many have watched Florida International Play but when you do Jones will be hard to miss. He is all over the floor and affects the game every time he plays.
Win over Charlotte- 20 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 assists
Win over UAB- 29 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals.
That will do it for the final five for the Mid Major nominations this year. Who do I think had the best week?
