We’re a smidge over two weeks into league play in a conference that, as they like to put it, “Just Means More”. Now, the games on the hardwood are meaning more and we already have a few early surprises and disappointments.
As I said, it’s SUPER early, so lists like these are always made at the risk of being Freezing Cold Take’d whenever the field of 68 is finally unveiled in March. But hey, this is what makes this sport so fun! What better way to dive into the state of SEC Basketball after two weeks of conference games and making a broad guess as to who is tournament bound and which coaches are feeling a slight warmth underneath their keister as a result of being on the hot seat than by dishing out some power rankings!
I’ve been doing a few power rankings in this conference before conference play started on Twitter (@E_Cambell3 follow me) but now, it’s time to start elaborating on these as we head into the week. I feel like I should go ahead and mention that I rank these teams solely by how they are playing in conference play. For instance, let’s say there was a team that walked into January with a fancy top-ten ranking and some swanky non-con wins and high expectations, that’s fantastic.
However, if they start, I don’t know, 1-2 in SEC play over these last few weeks (you probably have an idea of who I’m alluding to) then they’ll obviously be lower than a team that might have had some early struggles but are performing in the portion of the season that matters most. So with that being said, let’s get to the list and start with the lowly bottom feeders of the conference.
