Coming into the season, Big Ten Basketball was the one conference that had the most disputes as to who the top teams would be. The leading preseason contender was Indiana, while Illinois was viewed as the team that had the highest ceiling. Michigan arguably had the best player in the Big Ten in Hunter Dickinson, while Michigan State was the team with the Hall of Fame Head Coach in Tom Izzo.

And of course, the team that comes out of nowhere is Purdue, who went from unranked to start the season to No. 1 for multiple weeks, until they lost to Rutgers, making it back-to-back years that the Knights accomplished that feat. So after two months of basketball, just about nothing has been determined in the Big Ten.

The good news is that 12 of the 14 teams in the conference still have at-large hopes going forward. Minnesota looks like the clear worst team in Big Ten Basketball, while Nebraska is much improved compared to the past few years but still has a ways to go before being in contention. The rest of the teams have potential, depending on how the next two months go.

This is a two-part project, looking at which of the 12 remaining teams in the Big Ten to either “buy” or “sell”, when it comes to either making the NCAA Tournament or going on a run in March, based on original expectations. I’ll be using Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Purdue, Wisconsin, and Ohio State for this piece.
