Big 12 Basketball continues to be the highlight of the 2022-23 season, with constant great games week-in and week-out. They have another big game coming up with Kansas going on the road at Kansas State, in a matchup between the preseason favorite and surprise contender.
Check out where those two teams stand in the latest Big 12 power rankings.
10. Texas Tech Red Raiders – 10-7 (0-5)
The two best power conference victories for the Red Raiders are against Louisville and Georgetown, neither of whom has a single conference win. But the three 100+ point blowouts over small schools, plus the strength of schedule has their metrics looking solid. However, both their resume and overall standing in the Big 12 are at an all-time low.
After losing by 34 points on the road at Iowa State, Texas Tech was able to get some good news with the debut of Fardaws Aimaq, the prized transfer pickup this offseason from Utah Valley who has missed the entire season due to a foot injury.
He made it back for the game against Texas last weekend and played 29 minutes off the bench, scoring 12 points and five rebounds while also making a three-pointer. Aimaq was certainly needed, as starting center Daniel Batcho went scoreless in 12 minutes and ultimately fouled out. It was the best game of the season for Texas Tech, leading the Longhorns on the road for most of the game. But despite 23 points from freshman Pop Isaacs and 12 points and 14 rebounds from Jaylon Tyson, they lost at the end, 72-70.
With Aimaq back in the fold, the Red Raiders have more offense to work with. The question now is, is it too late to get back in the at-large picture? There are plenty of chances for them to get Quad 1 wins going forward, starting with Baylor and Kansas State coming up.
