Big East Basketball power rankings: Villanova drops lower, St. John’s rises
3. Marquette Golden Eagles – 14-5 (6-2)
In what was the toughest week of games they will play all season, the Eagles started things off with a home victory over UConn. The final score was 82-76, led by 19 points from Oso Ighodaro, along with 17 points and six rebounds from Olivier-Maxence Prosper. Guard Kameron Jones had 15 points, while point guard Tyler Kolek dished out eight assists.
The next game was on the road versus top-10 Xavier. The halftime score was 48-44 but both teams cooled off in the second half. It still was an entertaining and thrilling game that was decided in the final minute. Marquette wasn’t able to win this one, falling 80-76.
Kolek took on the role of scorer for the team, going for 25 points, while still having seven assists. He was one of five players in double figures, which included forward David Joplin having 11 points in 20 minutes off the bench. While the team shot 48% from the field, the Golden Eagles were just 6/24 from the three-point line.
Marquette takes on another ranked team up next in Providence, followed by a pair of road games against Seton Hall and DePaul. Their schedule finally gets easier for them and the Eagles are definitely still in the regular-season title hunt.
