The Busting Brackets Player of the Week returns and it was a full week with some gigantic performances. I have mentioned this before but the nominations list is starting to have a lot of familiar faces each week. They are all players that everyone expects to be on a player of the week list. As these players continue to shine hopefully they all can shine the brightest in about eight weeks and help get their teams to the NCAA tournament. This year has the potential to be a wild tournament, even though it feels like we say that every year.
We tried out a new format for this article last week and it worked very well. I was happy with the response that it got overall so the new format is going to continue as we move forward. Just a refresher for how this article works every week. All week long through watching films of games and rewatching the actual games I came up with a comprehensive list of players who I felt shined brighter than others. That list is pared down to the best five of the week and out of those final five players I pick the Busting Brackets Player of the Week for both the Mid Major and the Power 6 categories.
There has been one repeat winner of the award as Jake Stephens from Chattanooga has been the Mid Major Player of the Week twice this season. The Power 6 has yet to have a repeat winner but has had a lot of the same nominees for weeks now. I do say Power 6 because I include the American in that portion of the article. Markquis Nowell from Kansas State was the winner last week in the Power 6 section. The nominees and the winner of the awards are below.
