Transfers are making huge contributions to Ohio Valley Basketball teams. During this seventy-fifth OVC campaign, it is imported players that are making the most waves. The top six scorers transferred in this or last season.

This league has seemed to emphasize transfers over freshmen. Other than Eastern Illinois rookie Sincere Malone who leads the league in steals, there are no freshmen that show up in any meaningful statistical category. When Murray State and Belmont moved to the Missouri Valley Conference, coaching staffs also went heavy for ‘proven players’.

One-third of the way through the seventy-fifth OVC season, Southern Illinois Edwardsville (14-5) is leading the league with a 5-1 record. Preseason favorite Morehead State (10-9) is stuck in a pack of teams at 3-and-3.

While the Cougars lead the way, six teams are within two games of the top spot. Winning home games, while obviously important, is mandatory in this league. The OVC’s top three teams (SIUE, Southeast Missouri and Tennessee Tech) are all undefeated at home.

Transfers dot every lineup and none more that at surprising Tennessee Tech. Every TTU major contributor is new to the team. Jaylen Sebree (Morehead State), Jayvis Harvey (James Madison), Ty Perry (Lafayette) and Brett Thompson (junior college) all average over nine points per game for coach John Pelfrey.

While SEMO and SIUE are two of the more ‘stable’ of the OVC teams, they each have a key transfer in the mix.

This league had three TEAMS transfer out and three TEAMS transfer in. Joining Belmont and Murray State in the departure was long-time main stay Austin Peay. Lindenwood, Little Rock, and Southern Indiana joined the OVC. Those first two teams are transitioning from Division 2 to D1 and while eligible for the conference’s end-of-season tournament, they are not eligible for an NCAA Tournament berth.

As we approach the halfway point of the conference season, who are the top ten transfers in this transfer-heavy league?
