Big 12 Basketball: Buy or sell Kansas, Iowa State, Baylor, Texas and TCU?
Oklahoma State Cowboys – 11-9 (3-5)
The Cowboys are a team that has the worst offense in Big 12 Basketball, with no player averaging more than Bryce Thompson with 11.3 ppg. The good news with them is that forward Kalib Boone has emerged as an offensive threat, producing 13.0 ppg, and scoring in double figures in six of eight games, including a 23-point effort against Kansas State.
Ultimately, Oklahoma State will win or lose games based on its defense, which is one of the top three in the Big 12 in most categories. They’ve allowed 60 points or fewer in four league games, winning three of them.
The Cowboys have three wins in league play and the argument is that if they go either 7-11 or 8-10 in Big 12 Basketball play, that should be gone enough to win since they’ll build up multiple Quad 1 and 2 victories. But they will need at least a couple of those to be true signature victories to help offset that Quad 3 defeat to Southern Illinois in the non-conference.
This team has a defense that’s good enough to win enough games in Big 12 Basketball and the metrics love them already. I think they’ll be on the bubble but should have the wins needed to make the Field of 68.
