As many expected, SEC Basketball went down fairly easily in the Big 12-SEC challenge. With a final score of 7-3 and wins from both the top and depth of their league, the Big 12 proved to be the best conference in the country. However, the SEC may have a case for second. Here’s how the conference stacks up at the halfway point of conference play.

14. South Carolina

At 241st in KenPom, it’s been a tough season in year one for Lamont Paris. While not the worst of the high major schools, they certainly are one of them. But hey! At least you beat Kentucky.

13. LSU

Expectations were a little all over the place for the Tigers in the debut season of Matt McMahon. He brought over a handful of players from a Murray State team that made the tournament, but a lot of those players have not translated very well to the SEC. LSU sits at 1-7 in SEC play and is 128th in KenPom.

12. Ole Miss

Kermit Davis’ hot seat, unfortunately, didn’t get any cooler after a 22-point loss to Oklahoma State. The Rebels are currently clinging on to a top 100 KenPom spot, but have dropped their past three. Ole Miss is also dealing with some injury trouble as Matthew Murrell and Daeshun Ruffin both missed the Oklahoma State game.

11. Georgia

The praise that Mike White was getting has simmered down as Georgia has somewhat come back to reality. The Bulldogs needed overtime to escape South Carolina at home and lost three in a row before that game. Life won’t get any easier as Georgia will go on the road twice this week against Auburn and Texas A&M.
