Bracketology 2023: Texas, Indiana and Saint Mary’s among week’s biggest winners
Maryland Terrapins
The Terrapins are in a solid spot in the Big Ten, having a NET ranking of around 30 and zero losses outside of Quad 1. They had two games this weekend, including Saturday’s battle at Minnesota. That game ended up in a complete blowout, winning 81-46. While the Gophers aren’t good and is a Quad 4 opponent, a 35-point victory itself is good for the already good metrics.
The other game for Maryland was against Indiana, who was the other ranked team in the Big Ten next and the next-best opportunity to build a resume. It was a 66-55 home win for Maryland, led by 20 points from Jahmir Young and 19 from Donta Scott. Julian Reese produced a double-double down low as well.
The Indiana victory was just inside the Quad 1 range at home but thanks to their upset win over Purdue this weekend, that’s solidified at that spot for the Terrapins. And it has created a resume that could sneak up to a 5-6 seed range if they continue to not have losses outside of the Quad 1 range.
A road game with Michigan State is up next, another Quad 1 opportunity, and Purdue at home is up next. This is a team that’s safely in the field but lacked signature resume builders. That Indiana win could serve as that going forward.
