Bracketology 2023: WVU, Pittsburgh and Oklahoma among teams with key games
Pittsburgh 17-7 (10-3) vs. Florida State 8-17 (6-8)
Tallahassee, FL, February 11, 12:00 PM ET, ESPNU
In the ACC, Jeff Capel’s Pitt Panthers are trying to keep pace with the rest of the bubble teams around them. Despite being in a first-place tie in the conference, most outlooks right now have them hovering right around the 11-seed line, with a lot of us having them ticketed for Dayton. If the Panthers want to stay on the right side of the bubble, they can’t afford a slip-up on Saturday when they play Florida State. The Panthers have won six of seven coming into this rematch with the Seminoles, who incidentally account for the only loss in that stretch.
After beginning the year 1-3 with blowout losses to West Virginia and Michigan, they have gone 16-4 and the four other losses have come by an average of just over four points. The metrics believe more in what the Panthers have done, a decent amount more than what they will do. KPI and SOR have Pitt in the top 46 of their rankings but the predictive metrics have them at a 56 average.
They have a chance to get a good number of wins with their remaining schedule, with only a season-ending game with Miami against a team currently in the top eight of the league. Beginning with this return tilt with Florida State, the Panthers can not afford another quad 4 loss to the Seminoles.
