Georgetown Hoyas

It’s not really much of a secret that head coach Patrick Ewing’s days are numbered at Georgetown. It was a surprise that he got another year after going winless in Big East play. But at 6-20 overall and just one win this year in the conference (win over DePaul), the Hoyas are expected to move on.

What makes the job interesting and potentially difficult is that it’s connected to the late John Thompson and everyone associated with him. If you aren’t under that umbrella, the chances of getting the job aren’t great. But after a rough decade of NCAA Basketball play, you want to find the best coach possible.

If Mike Brey were interested, I doubt that there would be any hesitation to give him the job. He has the name and resume to avoid the back-channel politics that come with coaching searches. He also has plenty of success back when Notre Dame was in the Big East days for the program.

To cap it all off, Coach Brey was born in Bethesda, Maryland, and was once an assistant at the prestigious DeMatha High School. His familiarity with the DMV area would be a boost for local recruiting, something first-year Maryland HC Kevin Willard has prioritized himself, with early success.
