NCAA Basketball: 10 coaches that may get fired or leave after 2022-23 season
In the past week, the coaching carousel in NCAA Basketball has been in full force, including a number of storylines. There is Texas interim head coach Rodney Terry receiving a raise, while Notre Dame HC Mike Brey is set to leave Notre Dame after this year, but potentially coaching somewhere else.
There are always surprises each offseason when it comes to coaching hires and firings. We’ve covered the coaches most likely to go but keep watch for some that could also be in danger of either getting fired or voluntarily departing. Here are 10 names to keep in mind.
Travis Ford – Saint Louis Billikens
This was supposed to be the big year for Coach Ford and Saint Louis. They were receiving top-25 votes in the preseason and brought back Yuri Collins, the nation’s passing leader. And with Javonte Perkins back after missing all of last year with an injury, this team was set to be in the at-large conversation.
But the non-conference didn’t go as planned, with losses to Iona and SIU-Edwardsville taking them off the bubble. And the Atlantic 10 being down overall doesn’t help matters either. Ford has just one NCAA Tournament appearance in seven years if they don’t win the conference tournament and this is a program and fanbase of higher expectations.
With Duquesne and St. Joe’s having good years and Anthony Grant being an alum at Dayton, the guy most likely to get fired in the conference this offseason is Ford if the program wants to move in a different direction. It’s not super likely but he could be a name that’s on the hot seat of the Billikens flounder down the stretch.
