UConn Huskies
When the early bracket reveal was announced on Saturday, the biggest snub out of the top 16 was UConn. They started out the season at 14-0, including massive non-conference victories over Oregon, Florida, Iowa State, and most importantly, No. 1 overall seed, Alabama.
But after beating three teams in the bottom tier of the Big East, the Huskies then went on a 5 of 6 game losing skid, which included four road losses and a Quad 3 home defeat to St. John’s. They’re now 9-7 in conference play ahead of a home matchup with Providence this week, followed by three games against the bottom of the conference.
Maybe it’s a coincidence that both TCU and UConn, two teams with a fair amount of league losses, were left off the bracket reveal. But UConn has a massive signature victory in the Crimson Tide, along with still elite metrics. They’re the only team with a top-10 NET ranking to not make the cut and still have a combined nine wins against Quad 1/2 opponents.
The Huskies might not be the No. 2 team in the country as they were before the batch of losses. But from a resume standpoint, they arguably are better than the teams that did make the top-16 group (Marquette and Xavier). If they can win out at and least make the Big East Tournament finals, their record should look good enough to get a 3/4 seed.
