Wake Forest Basketball made some noise in the transfer portal early on, landing Central Michigan transfer, Kevin “Boopie” Miller.

There aren’t many teams that have as much success in the transfer portal than Wake Forest, who landed back-to-back star guards in Alondes Williams and Tyree Appleby. They decided to strike the portal early this time around, landing Boopie Miller.

Originally from Chicago, Illinois, Miller was a standout freshman in the MAC a year ago at Central Michigan. In the first year, the 6’0 guard averaged a team-leading 13.1 ppg and 4.6 apg on 42% shooting on 28 starts. He had five games of at least 20 points, including three straight in the middle of league play in his first-year.

Miller considered leaving Central Michigan a year ago but opted to return. He played four games this past season before being shut down with an injury for the rest of the way. Afterward, he entered the portal, becoming one of the top guards available. In the end, it didn’t take long for him to find a new home.

Whether you’re a believer in Miller’s skills at the power conference level or not, the vote of confidence from head coach Steve Forbes is a positive indicator. He joins a Wake Forest roster that did win 19 games total but missed out on a postseason appearance.

The Demon Deacons are a team in need of a roster rebuild, knowing that both Appleby and Daivien Williamson are out of eligibility and there aren’t other ball-handlers on the roster. The jury is still out on Jao Ituka, a transfer from Marist from a year ago that was limited to just six games this past season, scoring just 18 total points.

As of now, Miller is slated to start at point guard next to Cameron Hildreth, the current leading returning scorer at 12.4 ppg and 2.8 apg. we’ll see how good the MAC transfer is and whether he can fill the shoes of the past two high profile transfers. Wake Forest will need him to be close to that if they’re to get back into NCAA Tournament contention.
