There have been a number of coaching changes in NCAA Basketball already this offseason, now that there’s just 30 teams left playing. One move that was made was Western Kentucky parting ways with head coach Rick Stansbury after anothe underwhelming campaign. With that move, players now have the option of transfering with an automatic waiver. The one player that made that decision on Tuesday is Dayvion McKnight.

Orginally from Shelbyville, Kentucky, McKnight is a 6’1 combo guard that had the ball in his hands with the Hilltoppers. After taking over as a starter in his sophomore season, the playmaking guard averaged 16.2 ppg and 5.5 apg and was an all-conference player.

This past season, McKnight’s numbers took a slight dip, averaging 16.5 ppg and 3.8 apg on 46% shooting from the field and 34% from three-point range. He was in double figures in 28 of 33 games, including a season-high 33 points and five assists in a win over Middle Tennessee. The point guard also dished out 10 assists (along with 14 points) in a win against South Carolina State in the non-conference.

There are some pros and cons to McKnight’s game. He can be a bit ball-dominant at times and certainly can be turnover-prone. The point guard also doesn’t shoot much from deep, making just 19 total three-pointers as a junior. But his ability to score inside and his overall explosiveness is an asset that makes him valuable either at the mid-major or high-major level.

Now that he’s in the portal, expect there to be plenty of interest for McKnight in the upcoming days. Here’s a look at some programs that would be an ideal fit for the former Western Kentucky guard.
