When the NCAA Basketball transfer portal opened up, there was a few marquee names that immeditately entered. One of them as BJ Mack, a transfer from Wofford that in the past two years, averaged 16.5 ppg and 5.7 rpg. He’s a 6’8 and 250-pound power forward that originally came from South Florida before transfering over to the Terriers.
Mack has shown the ability to be a versatile offensive weapon, capable of playing at the power conference level. And that seems to be where he’s heading in his final year of eligibilty, as his list of 10 contenders are filled with them.
Which of these NCAA Basketball are the best potential fits for Mack? Here’s a power ranking of the best landing spots for him, using the potential of both playing time and ability to win.
10. South Carolina Gamecocks
In Coach Lamont Paris’ first season with the program, the Gamecocks won a total of 11 games. And that was with freshman GG Jackson leading the team with 15.4 ppg and 5.9 rpg at the four-spot. The issue here is that if Jackson stays, the potential for playing time automatically dips for Mack.
But if Jackson goes pro or transfers out, then South Carolina easily is the worst team of all 10 options. Mack didn’t win much at Wofford this past season so would it be the best to join the least-talented roster in the SEC for next season?
9. LSU Tigers
As bad as South Carolina was last season, they still were better than LSU, who ended the year with 16 losses in 17 games. It was a rough first year for head coach Matt McMahon and they’ll have to find a way to win without leading scorer and rebounder, KJ Williams.
The experiment with Northwestern State transfer Kendal Coleman failed last season and senior forward Derek Fountain is the only returning key forward to consider on the roster, although he plays more of a 4 than a 5. The Tigers aren’t in a much better spot than South Carolina and the playing time might not be great there either.
