The San Diego State versus Creighton matchup went down to literally the final second. A decision to call a foul sent the Aztecs to the Final Four.

San Diego State vs Creighton was a matchup of non-power conference programs with a trip to the Final Four on the line. The Bluejays had a great offense, while the Aztecs had an elite defense. It was a game that went back-and-forth, with the second half being a complete rockfight.

Neither team could get anything going, with every basket mattering. San Diego State was the team that had the edge in the final minute, thanks to key baskets made by both Darrion Trammell and Nathan Mensah. But Creighton got some hope with 30 seconds left, recovering a turnover for an easy layup to tie the game at 56.

With 10 seconds to go, Trammell got the ball and went to the basket, only to get fouled on the attempt. Was it a foul? You be the judge below.

It may be close but it leaves a couple of questions. Was it truly a foul call and should the refs have even called it? It’s hard because on one hand, you don’t want the refs to decide the outcome of a game. On the other hand, you also can’t let obvious foul calls not happen, just because the time of the game. It was ultimately the right call, one that the Bluejays will remember for a while.

In the end, Trammelll missed the first free throw attempt, creating all the pressure in the world. But he sinked the second one to take the 57-56 lead. Creighton threw a prayer with just one second left and it went awry, sending the Aztecs to the first Final Four in both program and Mountain West history.
