Big Ten Basketball: 10 key storylines to watch for 2023 offseason
With Michigan State losing in the Sweet 16 to the Kansas State Wildcats, that ended the journey for Big Ten Basketball. Despite being tied for the most teams in the NCAA Tournament with eight, only one made it to the Sweet 16. One team that fell was the Purdue Boilermakers, who become the second-ever No. 1 seed to lose in the Round of 64.
It was an exclamation point to what was collectively, a mediocre season. They had enough teams making the Big Dance but most of them were seeded between 7-10, which means that they weren’t long for March. The teams all beat each other, which showed that the Big Ten had depth as a conference but not strong enough to compete against the other teams.
There’s now a theme for Big Ten Basketball in the NCAA Tournament when it comes to its struggles in March. And this upcoming offseason is going to have a lot of coaches look in the mirror on how to improved their respective teams.
There are plenty of storylines to watch for the 14 teams this offseason, which is the final one before USC and UCLA (for now) joining them for the 2023-24 campaign. There are several teams that automatically lose key players due to eligibility, along with a few other projected NBA Draft picks likely to move on.
