It’s the start of a new era for Gonzaga, as they’ll be without All-American center, Drew Timme. He’s the all-time leading scorer for the program and the focal point of the offense for the last three years. He’s gone, along with senior guard Rasir Bolton and likely projected NBA Draft pick, Julian Strawther. Malachi Smith has the option of coming back for one more year too but there’s a real chance that he goes pro as well.

That leaves a pair of young guards in Nolan Hickman and Hunter Sallis. When it comes to Sallis, he’s not much of an offensive threat and is known as a perimeter defender. Hickman showed flashes was a lead guard in his first year starting but had a miserable NCAA Tournament. The sophomore point guard scored just eight points combined, including scoreless in games against UCLA and UConn.

One thing that was clear in the Big Dance for Gonzaga is that they didn’t have guards that could produce offensively or create anything. So expect there to be another guard or two from the portal. Love would have to play at the WCC for a year but the trade-off is playing for a program that makes the NCAA Tournament every season, as well as eight straight Sweet 16 appearances.

Love could put up huge numbers for the Bulldogs as the lead guard and be on a top-10 caliber roster. Assuming being in the WCC doesn’t bother him, this is an option that has plenty of selling points, especially if games in March matters.
