NCAA Basketball: 10 teams that should target UNC transfer Caleb Love
Missouri Tigers
There’s another local program in the St. Louis area that could make sense and it’s Missouri. A year ago, they were below St. Louis in the NCAA Basketball hierarchy, as a program that was in the bottom-half of the SEC and having just one 20+ win season in the previous eight years.
New head coach Dennis Gates turned the Tigers around immeidately, winning 25 games and making it to the Round of 32 of the NCAA Tournament. What made it impressive is that outside of Kobe Brown, it was done largely with JUCO transfers, and former players from the Horizon League and Missouri Valley Conference.
So imagine what Coach Gates could do with a player already at the power conference level? Love’s offense could use a little fine-tuning but at Missouri, he could flourish. He’d also be paired with John Tonje, a transfer pickup from Colorado State that’s also a quality scorer.
If Love wants to go close to home but remain with a power conference program with a better than 50% shot at making the Big Dance, Missouri makes plenty of sense. I doubt landing Tonje would take the team out of the Love sweepstakes, though they may try to go for a true wing instead of another shooting guard.
