Talented point guard Sahvir Wheeler became one of the latest big names NCAA basketball players to enter his name into the Transfer Portal, doing so on Monday afternoon. He was born in New York and raised in Houston, starring at Houston Christian High School. He was a fringe Top 100 prospect in the Class of 2019, considered a 4-star recruit at the time.

Wheeler began his collegiate career at Georgia under Tom Crean and was part of a recruiting class that included future #1 overall draft pick Anthony Edwards. He was an important piece of the backcourt as a freshman and his role only increased as a sophomore. In that second season, Wheeler averaged 14.0 points and 7.4 assists per game, earning Second Team All-SEC honors while also leading the conference in assists.

After those two seasons, he transferred to Kentucky and spent the last two years in John Calipari’s system with the Wildcats. As a junior, he again earned Second Team All-SEC honors and again led the SEC in assists, this time averaging 10.1 points and 6.9 assists per game. Unfortunately, his senior season was less successful and he missed the last month of the year with an ankle injury, averaging just 7.7 points and 5.6 assists across 21 games this past year.

Wheeler is again in the Transfer Portal and is looking for a third school, one to spend his final year of collegiate eligibility. He’s been a starting point guard for much of his career and has been one of the best ball distributors in the country in his prime. Those two seasons saw him among the Top 5 players in the nations in assists and whichever team lands his services will be getting a great veteran and experienced piece for their backcourt. A long list of schools could be intrigued, but here are 10 that may seek him out in the weeks ahead.
