7. Judah Mintz – Syracuse Orange

Only a few true freshmen in NCAA Basketball averaged more than 15 ppg this past season. Those like Brandon Miller and Keyonte George are sure bets to go pro, while another at Syracuse could come back. Mintz was a former Pittsburgh commit that joined Syracuse and had a highly impactful season, averaging 16.3 ppg and a team-leading 4.6 apg.

The 6’3 playmaker played the point guard position next to Joe Girard but still managed to score at a high level. Mintz was in double figures in 28 of 32 games, including nine with at least 20 points. He was on a tear in the final month of the season, scoring 15+ points in each of the last 12 outings. He also had a 10-assist game against Georgetown in the non-conference.

Mintz greatly improved in the ladder half of the season, including his decision-making. He may not have had the greatest moments at the end of games but did show the desire to take over games. He only shot 30% from three-point range and focused on mid-range and drives to the basket. A couple of improvements from deep could significantly upgrade his stock.

Mintz has entered the NBA Draft process but with a new head coach in Adrian Autry, they could play a different style that makes him a potential lottery pick. If he comes back, the Orange might be a surprise team to watch in the ACC next season.
