The NCAA Basketball transfer portal is expected to put up some major numbers when it comes to D-I transfers. After it officially opened after the conference tournaments ended, hundreds of players became free agents. Now, the overall number is over 1,000, with hundreds more set to come.
There are going to be many updates throughout the offseason in the portal adventure but here’s the first, in terms of who has committed to new teams. Among the early pickups, here are the top 20 commitments.
20. Myles Tate – Butler to Appalachian State
2022-23 stats: 2.5 ppg and 1.0 rpg
After starting 18 games as a freshman, Tate has been buried on the bench at Butler for the past couple of years. He showed to be a solid combo guard that should be able to find minutes at the Sun Belt level. Appalachian State didn’t have a ton of offense this past season and may lose its leading scorer, Donovan Gregory.
19. Mike Meadows – Portland to LMU
2022-23 stats: 11.0 ppg and 2.2 apg
Injuries limited the senior guard to just 21 games played this season but Meadows showed that he’s capable of being a volume scorer. He dropped a career-high 39 points on 14/22 shooting against Santa Clara, including 29 points against the team he’s going to, LMU.
The Lions are replacing 21 ppg scoring guard, Cameron Shelton, along with a couple of other key pieces. Meadows is capable of helping replace that kind of production and is familiar with the WCC level. LMU has done a solid job so far reloading its roster and taking care of local targets such as Meadows.
