LSU vs Iowa: 2023 Women’s NCAA Tournament game preview, TV schedule, predictions
Iowa Hawkeyes
1st nationally in scoring at 87.6 ppg
Caitlin Clark averages 27.3 ppg, 7.3 rpg, 8.6 rpg
Wins over Southeastern, Georgia, Colorado, Louisville, and South Carolina
All eyes are rightfully on Clark, who is making a case for being an all-time NCAA Basketball player on both the men’s and women’s side. She was responsible for every single point in the 4th quarter against South Carolina, both via scoring and passing. Scoring 41 points against the best defense in the country was simply an amazing feat.
But Iowa has more than the junior superstar guard. Monika Czinano, who is second on the team with 17.2 ppg and 8.6 rpg, finished with 18 points on 6/8 shooting and made all six of her free throw attempts. Wing McKenna Warnock is third on the team in scoring and makes 39% of her three-point attempts.
The Hawkeyes are one of the best offenses in the country and launch a lot of threes. If LSU isn’t careful, they could give up another 20-2 run. And unlike Virginia Tech, Iowa doesn’t let up. At the same time, this isn’t a great defensive team either. They got away with throwing four women in the paint and daring the bad shooters from South Carolina to beat them.
And yet, they got killed on the boards. LSU ranks top-5 nationally in total rebounds and has one of the three best individual rebounders overall in Angel Reese. There are things the Hawkeyes did against the Gamecocks that they won’t be able to do against the Tigers so it’ll be interesting to see how they defend another fairly big team from the SEC.
