NCAA Basketball: 10 teams that should target Michigan transfer Hunter Dickinson
Virginia Tech Hokies
Speaking of connections back in the day, Dickinson comes from powerhouse DeMatha High School, coached by Mike Jones. He’s currently an assistant at Virginia Tech, another potential local option for the big man. The program has been slowly building already this offseason via local players, landing Old Dominion big guard Mekhi Long along with UNC win transfer, Tyler Nickel.
The Hokies could use a big man to round out the offseason since they’re losing their best player, Justy Mutts. They also have to wait on a decision from starting center, Grant Basile. Even if he were to come back for a 6th season, these two would work well offensively.
The starting big for the Hokies averaged 16.4 ppg and shot 39% from three-point range. They’d be interchangeable in the frontcourt together, although I wouldn’t be able to explain how it would work out favorably defensively. Yet if Basile departs, Dickinson would be the focal point of the offense and would be surrounded by elite shooting guards, Hunter Cattoor and Sean Pedulla.
Dickinson would thrive in the ACC and play in an offensive system that could see him averaging 20 and 10. And it’s a conference easier than the Big Ten and Big East when it comes to winning, while still being able to play close to home. Assuming he’s still close with Coach Jones, this could be a darkhorse team to watch here.
