NCAA Basketball: 8 teams that should target Tennessee transfer Olivier Nkamhoua
The NCAA Basketball transfer portal continues to cause drama throughout the offseason. The Tennessee Volunteers are the latest program to be affected by this, having lost its best frontcourt player this past season in Olivier Nkamhoua.
The 6’8 forward comes from Helsinki, Finland, and has spent the last four seasons at Tennessee. After two years of limited minutes off the bench, Nkamhoua became a full-time starter as an upperclassman. He averaged 8.6 ppg and 5.6 rpg as a junior before having a breakout year this past season.
As a senior, the power forward averaged 10.8 ppg and 5.0 rpg. Nkamhoua was fairly inconsistent on offense, with more games with six points or fewer than 20+. But when he’s on, the big man can produce. He went for 27 points and eight rebounds in a win over Texas, along with 27 points on 10/13 shooting in the Round of 32 victory over Duke.
Even in his junior season, Nkamhoua was able to produce against quality competition. And while his offense comes and goes at times in a system that’s slower than other programs, the forward’s defense remains at a high level each game. The one question with Tennessee is whether or not its offense under Coach Rick Barnes can win and maybe the players wonder the same thing.
