13. Earl Grant – Boston College

Grant played his college ball at Georgia College, a D2 school, and began his coaching career over two decades ago as an assistant at The Citadel. A few years later, he joined Gregg Marshall’s staff and spent six years under him at multiple schools. After a stint on the Clemson bench, he began his head coaching career at the College of Charleston, leading the Cougars to the NCAA Tournament back in 2018. Grant was later hired to lead Boston College in 2021.

His work at Charleston was mostly solid, but he’s had his work cut out for him with Boston College. While he’s been below .500 in each of his first two seasons leading the Eagles, this Boston College program has been a cellar dweller in the ACC for over a decade. Grant will need time to build success here, and his team’s 16 wins last season were a step in the right direction, even if they finished just 10th in a down year for the ACC.

The jury is still out on Grant, though we have a firmer grasp on him than a few of the coaches on this list. His work at Charleston was good, but the task at hand here is significantly more difficult. There’s no guarantee that Boston College will turn things around in the coming years, but Grant has at least done a solid enough job in his first two seasons. We simply don’t know what the ceiling is for him in the coming years.
