LSU
There were a lot of changes at LSU last season in Matt McMahon’s first season in Baton Rouge, but could the biggest change of all be adding Cryer this offseason? He was originally offered by LSU, albeit by a different coaching staff, and was born in nearby New Orleans. What’s also evident is that LSU certainly needs someone with his talents on offense.
This past season saw Murray State transfer forward KJ Williams carry the weight on offense, and he had an electric season shooting the ball. There are still a number of uncertainties across LSU’s rotation, but Cryer would be able to come in and play even better offense and solidify that backcourt. One issue could be that LSU may be more than just one elite player away from competing for an SEC title and it remains to be seen what exactly Cryer is looking for in his next school.
Memphis
Last year, Memphis landed one of the top names in the entire Transfer Portal in former SMU point guard Kendric Davis, and he had a fantastic season for the Tigers, leading the team in scoring and playing a major role in their success. History could easily repeat itself if Cryer were to head towards Penny Hardaway and Memphis; they certainly need a new point guard who can score the basketball.
There will be major changes on Memphis’s senior-laden roster and Cryer could come in and be the new star of the Tigers. His long-range shooting and ball-handling skills would be excellent weapons for the Tigers. Additionally, they remain in a very winnable AAC that loses Houston and a few other strong teams, making Memphis’s route to national prominence even easier next season.
