TCU
The Horned Frogs returned virtually their entire lineup last season, but that is not going to happen for a second straight year. Jamie Dixon has done a marvelous job making this program a competitor in the Big 12, even if this team couldn’t get further than the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Could the addition of Cryer change their fortunes?
Star point guard Mike Miles Jr. is likely gone and adding Cryer would be a fantastic movie for Dixon and company. The Horned Frogs certainly need someone to lead this offense, especially with the amount of scoring they’ll lose in the offseason. It’s possible that fellow stars Damion Baugh and Emanuel Miller will not return. Even if both come back, the addition of Cryer would put TCU right back in the Big 12 race next season.
Texas
Rodney Terry recently earned the full-time head coaching job for the Longhorns and if he wants to keep that job he’ll need to get right to work rebuilding this lineup. Texas had a fantastic season, even after losing coach Chris Beard, but there will be plenty of new faces in Austin next year, with leading scorers Marcus Carr and Sir’Jabari Rice among the departures.
If Tyrese Hunter does not return, then Cryer’s role as starting point guard would be quite clear for the Longhorns. Even with Hunter back, Cryer’s role on offense would be well-defined. This team needs new bodies and Cryer is certainly one of the best backcourt options available. Texas loses two talented 3-point shooters in Carr and Rice but Cryer is even better.
