NCAA Basketball: Way-too-early top 25 power rankings for 2023-24 season
2022-23 season record: 24-10 (13-5 Mountain West)
Expected losses: Sadraque Nganga, James Milner, Marcus Shaver, Naje Smith
The Broncos ended up having a good season without any production from Nganga, the former top-100 prospect who didn’t pan out. Who did pan out was guard Max Rice, the son of head coach, Dave Rice. He broke out as a senior, second on the team with 14.0 ppg on 41% shooting from three-point range.
He’s already decided that he’ll be back for an extra season, giving Boise State its top three scorers back. That includes Tyson Degenhart (14.1 ppg) and forward Chibuzo Agbo (11.5 ppg and 4.8 rpg). That instantly gives them a core good enough to compete in the Mountain West yet again.
The Broncos have already found its replacement for Shaver in the transfer portal. Roddie Anderson averaged 13.1 ppg and 3.6 apg as a freshman at UC Davis, shooting 39% from the field. He had three straight 20+ point games to end the season and went for 17 points and 10 assists in a game against UC Santa Barbara.
With Anderson in the fold, Boise State will have a great starting lineup. They’ll need returners such as Jace Whiting or the incoming freshmen class to have an impact off the bench but right now, they’re in a good spot overall.
