9. Florida State
From 2017-2021, Florida State was a consistent top-25, if not top-15 team in college basketball. They made three trips to the second weekend of the NCAA Tournament and were on the short list of national title favorites before the tournament was canceled in 2020.
Last season was a far cry from that level of success, as they failed to reach double-digit wins for the first time in more than 20 years.
That said, FSU should be respectably competitive again in 2023-24. The Noles are expected to return four of their top-five scorers, led by Matthew Cleveland (13.8 PPG) and Darin Green Jr. (13.4 PPG).
For the second year in a row, Florida State’s season was hampered by injuries. Brown transfer and Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year Jaylan Gainey missed the entire season, while Cam’Ron Fletcher and Baba Miller each missed more than half the season. That’s three of FSU’s top-seven rotation players who should all be back in the mix this fall.
Caleb Mills, who transferred to Florida State from Houston, is now back in the portal. Although the individual numbers look decent, Mills was never a seamless fit in Leonard Hamilton’s system. Expect Hamilton to go portaling for a point guard.
