NCAA Basketball: Ranking the 6 finalists for VCU transfer Jalen Deloach
4. Florida State Seminoles
The Seminoles have been built on the defensive end when they’re playing well. They were awful on that end this past season, which is why they won nine games total. Deloach would be a perfect fit in the frontcourt and what they want to do. The concern is whether or not there’s too much depth.
Florida State will have former Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year Jaylan Gainey back after an injury cost him the entire season. And freshman Cameron Corhen will be looking to remain a starter after playing large minutes this year. And assuming Baba Miller also sticks around, the minutes aren’t a guarantee for the VCU transfer, even though he’s a more natural fit.
3. Indiana Hoosiers
The Hoosiers are in the middle of rebuilding its frontcourt, having already added Ball State transfer, Payton Sparks. He’s a true center, whereas Deloach can play and defend, both the four and five-spots on the court. The team also is bringing back Malik Reneau, a former five-star prospect that’s due for a larger role this season now that Trayce Jackson-Davis is gone.
The debate here is whether or not Deloach will be effective at the center position if Reneau has his breakout campaign. Because Sparks may be the top option at the five thanks to his size. The chance to play for a historic powerhouse in Indiana may be too much to pass up but it also may not be the most natural fit.
