2. Virginia Cavaliers
The Cavaliers have always done well with big men that are defensive anchors. They went away with that a bit this past season, as Jayden Gardner played most at the five in small-ball lineups. Kadin Shedrick, who was the defensive anchor for the past couple of years, ultimately ended up in the transfer portal.
Handlogten would be a nice candidate to take over at center for the next three seasons. There’s plenty of playing time as well since multiple frontcourt players transferred out. The only other thing to note is that he’d be going from one of the faster-paced programs in NCAA Basketball to one of the slowest on offense. As long as that’s not an issue, they’d be a great fit and he’d go to a winning program.
1. Missouri Tigers
Missouri was one of the smaller teams in the SEC but was able to make it work since all five players were offensive threats. They did have Mohamed Diarra play some at the five-stop for around 15 mpg but he’s transferred out.
Even if starting center Noah Carter decides to come back for a 5th season, the Tigers need some real size to compete against bigger lineups. Handlogten would be a great pickup and another mid-major transfer that Coach Dennis Gates can turn into a capable power conference contributor.
