11. Grant McCasland – Texas Tech

Though he’s a former point guard at Baylor back in the 90’s, McCasland has certainly asserted himself as a successful coach. In between joining Scott Drew’s staff at his alma mater, McCasland has been the head coach at five different colleges. He had a promising run at Midland, Midwestern State, and Arkansas State before a very successful six-year tenure leading North Texas.

McCasland begins his first season leading Texas Tech, but his body of work at North Texas is more than enough to get excited. He won the CBI in his first season and the NIT in his final with the Mean Green. He got that program to the NCAA Tournament and upset Purdue in the first round back in 2021. In all, McCasland won 135 games leading North Texas and made the short voyage over to lead these Red Raiders.

While he’s never been a power conference head coach, McCasland has Big 12 experience at Baylor and has spent nearly his entire career coaching and recruiting in the state of Texas. This Texas Tech program has been in great shape in recent years, but it’s on McCasland to keep them competitive in a new-age Big 12. He’s been a winner in the past; can it continue at College Station?
